Who we are?
Grootfontein
Since we moved the Dorper sheep from Bakenshoogte to our family farm, Grootfontein, we have tirelessly worked to establish a sheep flock, so that we can share this delicious meat product with you.
Grootfontein is situated in the Dewetsdorp district, a small town southeast of Bloemfontein. Here, we farm with Simbra cattle as well as meat merino sheep. Our ancestors were merino farmers, but we wanted to focus more on meat production.
XXY is our mark
XXY is the brand by which our animals are identified, ensuring the traceability of our meat. Our animals primarily graze on the natural grasses of the Free State plains, including Rooigras (Themeda Triandra), Oulandsgras (Eragrostis Curvula), Hartjiegras (Eragrostis Racemosa), Borseltjiegras (Anthephora Pubescens), Kweek Paspulum, waterkweek (Paspulum Distichum), brown hoenderspoor (Eustachus Paspaloides), and many more. Each of these grasses contributes to the distinct flavor of the meat in the Free State.
